Building Peace and Resilience in Eastern DRC

Congo is at war. The world has stopped giving. Donors are leaving or shutting down.

Aid must change.

At Nguvu ya Uvira, we don’t give handouts: we empower local solutions to solve local problems.

Help us leave a lasting mark. Help us grow the power of Uvira.

Our Impact in Numbers

Our Programmes at a Glance

We work directly with the community, listen to their needs, and tailor programs to have a lasting impact.

When you empower local solutions, you solve local problems.

We believe that lasting change begins within the community. That’s why every program we run is designed and led by people from Uvira; those who understand the challenges, the culture, and the solutions.

We’re not just responding to crisis, we’re building a future where Uvira thrives.

Testimonials

“I received a loan of $200 to repay after a period of 3 months, which I have already managed to do once. This money has helped me a lot; every week I gain 20,000 Congolese Francs, and I divide that into two: half I invest and the other half I use that to buy the children's food or pay for my children's studies. During the holiday period I bought the children Christmas presents. Thank you to the foundation; today I am a useful mother.”

Uvira basketball team at a tournament in Kalemie

Thanks to your commitment to basketball, the young players of Uvira were able to live enriching new experiences... this tournament in Kalemie not only strengthened our passion for sport, but also had significant benefits for our personal development and some opportunities for a sporting career... we learn essential values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience... the time we spend playing basketball protects us from risky behaviors like delinquency, alcohol, and drugs... and gives us opportunities to strengthen social cohesion.

“I have two children, Serge and Deborah. They were very sick when I brought them to the foundation, and they received medical care and with the porridge and the medicine I noticed that the children were in much better health, even their bodies they had gained weight not like before. If you had not intervened the children would have died. Keep going your help and don’t leave them.”
